Book reports

Page history last edited by Mark 1 yr ago

On March 7th, we went over how we were expected to carry out our presentation and were given an example of how one looks and sounds like.

Before the book reports began, Mr. Higgins spent a few minutes in class giving us an example of what he expected of us for the presentations. He did his own book report essentially, on a book called Palestine.

The schedule for book reports is as follows:

Monday, March 24:

Krystan presented on Embroideries - Embroideries was a story about a bunch of old women sitting around talking about men, sex, and all sorts of strange troubles related to them. From what I gathered, it was one big book of mostly humorous stories about these women's sex lives, like sex in the city in a comic book, golden girls style. I'm sure, underneath it all, it was a story about the position of women in society in that area of the world, but really, who looks at the underside of that kind of story?

Mark presented on Exit Wounds- Exit wounds was a story about Kobe, a taxi driver in Israel whom is confronted by a female soldier about the allegid death of his father. This soldier was Kobe's father's lover. They then embark on a quest to find Kobe's "dead" body, ending in them not finding anything, but becoming lovers themselves.

Allison presented on Epileptic

Wednesday, March 26:

Stephen H. presented on Adolf- Adlof is a story about three seperate people named Adolf. Adolf Hitler, a young german boy, and a young jewish boy. This story follows the life of these males and expresses the hardships that they each face. It digs up a conspiracy that states that Hitler was a Jew. It also follows the story about the friendship of the two young boys. german Adolf is being pushed into the Hitler youth, but won't go because his only friend is Jewish. Jewish Adolf doesn't believe himself to be jewish, but instead german.

Eric presented on Maus- Maus is a story about Art Spiegelman's family during the Holocaust, It is also about him writing Maus, while listening to his dad's stories. It's a story about survival and hardships that one had to face as a Jew during the Holocaust

Stephen I. presented on Barefoot Gen

Friday, March 28:

Jacob presented on American-born Chinese: The story that not only tells of an old fable but also combines that with every day life. There are three stories in it that are more connected than at first appearance.

Samantha presented on Persepolis: It's about what happened during the Iraqie Revolution. It tells about this gilrs life during the time and how she doesn't seem to fit in anywhere.

Jack presented on Notes from a War Story: It's a story that gets better the more you read it. It tells of violence in local neighborhoods and how loathsome it was to live there.
