Short Stories

"The Anatomy Lesson" This is the story of just what Swamp Thing really is. Turns out that plants "consumed" the remains of Alec Holland (Swamp Thing.) Because Alec was covered in a pant serum the plants tried to copy his organs, anatomy, even his consiousness. The story is centered around a scientist who discovered this origin. He also discovers that he was being used by this old man who was keeping Swamp Thing in cold storage. The scientist got his revenge by unfreezing Swamp Thing, letting him read his findings, and, in a fit of rage, Swamp Thing kills the old man.

"Hold Me" This is one of the stories about an exorcist/demon hunter named John Constantine. He gets picked up by a woman who wants to get in bed with him. John remembers, as he gets to her apartment, that she is a lesbian. She confesses and tells him that he was the likely subject to donate sperm for a child. Meanwhile, a ghost kills a woman by hugging the life out of her. The woman's daughter, along with her, just happen to live in the same buiding John was in. The daughter told John what happened, John finds the woman to be dead, and he girl is left with the woman. When John finds the ghost, it turns out that all it wanted was to be loved. John hugs the ghost and the ghost is satisfied.

Sandman: Season of Mists

Prologue (Chapter 0)

Chapter 1

After reading the first chapter from Sandman: Season of Mists, we found that there were a few characters that needed some background explaining before we could really understand their place in the story. First, there was Cain and Abel. These two are indeed the one from God's story of Genesis. They never died and in fact are living in the dream world right now where Morpheus, the endless Dream entity, occasionally uses Cain as a message boy. Secondly, we have Hob who was a 14th century man who didn't believe he could die and therefore, didn't. Every 100 years, Hob and Morpheus meet in a bar for a couple drinks. It was recently decided that they are each other's only friend. Daniel is an infant who was in his mother’s womb for multiple years. The mother had followed her dead husband into the Dreamworld where she stayed pregnant the entire time. Now back on earth, she has given birth to a son (namely, Daniel). As he was formed in the dream realm, this makes him very special and it was hinted at that he might have to be Morpheus' heir to the throne. Lastly, Pumpkin(face/head?) of the dream world is essentially the "grunt man" who builds all the sets for all the dreams. (Thank you Pumpkinhead.)

We also discussed the malleable-ness of Morpheus' appearance, focusing especially on his face. Morpheus appears however he wants to depending on his mood or who he is talking to. More interesting than that, though, is his ever changing perspective of himself. He has changed over the past few years; growing towards an understanding not only of his fallibleness, but of his mortality in a sense. He knows now that some of his decisions weren't always the right ones and he can indeed be destroyed and replaced.

Also, Lucifer Morningstar, keeper of Hell looks like David Bowie.

Chapter 2

In this chapter, Dream goes down to hell to talk to retrive the woman that he condemned. however, he instead finds her missing. He calls out to Lucifer to find that he is emptying Hell. he is quitting. So, Dream finds himself in possetion of the key to hell and Lucifer goes on his way.

And yes, Lucifer does look like David Bowie

Chapter 3

In this chapter all these various Gods come to Dream wanting him to give them Hell but he hasn't yet figured out what he wants to do with it. The norse Gods, Chaos, Order, Demons, and the Japanese gods all want Hell either to benefit themselves or to fullfill their desires. There were some Angels present but they were told to observe them all.

Chapter 4

Chapter 5

Chapter 6

Epilogue (Chapter infinity) This was the ending chapter and slightly confusing if not read correctly or understood. Pretty much what happens is that Remiel and Duma are discussing the reasoning behind their taking over Hell and the reasons that there will be no more torturing for sheer malice alone, that it is because they love those who are damned and that the torture is to make said damned souls better people and redeem them in the end. They fly off after discussing this and the damned souls that are being tortured dislike that idea as they say that makes it so much "worse".

Lucifer also enters the story again. He is seen on the beach in Australia talking to some old man about his problems and about how many people he lost via wars and life in general. It is only at the end of the novel that Lucifer says that the sunset is beautiful and must agree that God did a real damn nice job on it. Lucifer agreeing with something good God did, holy crap the world is coming to an end.

(I think this is the one I gotta do)
